The purpose of the Locating Place or "The Eastside" project, was to show an audience how the artist views the Eastside of Austin. We also had to relate our view of the Eastside of Austin to a theme. I decided to talk about the struggle of the everyday minorities. I decided to show a feeling of grit, grime, and hard work. The song is a collection of songs that tell the story of the minority in this world. I really enjoyed this project because I love telling a story with my work, and this was a great opportunity to do that.

Locating Place (Phase 2)
Locating Place Book Final
This is the second phase to the Locating Place project, in the form of a book. I decided to do more grit and grime and the use of imaging to further the story of the struggles of minorities. I added another aspect to the theme, and decided to bring out some of the flaws of hip hop today. I feel at times the rappers do not take advantage of the power of influence they have to bring about change to the world, or at least their respective communities.

Site Redesign

http://myweb.stedwards.edu/eswain/
This project was an introductory project with CCS style sheets, dreamweaver and html. It was a very needed project to spark a flame to self teach myself more aspects of creating a website.
Research Paper
Research Paper
This is my research paper on Charles and Ray Eames. I found this research topic was pretty interesting because I had never learned about the Eames in detail.

Concept Map

This project depicts the product life cycle of the snapback. Using a concept map, the purpose of the project was to choose a subject, object, and map out the process of that chosen subject. I chose the snapback because it is a part of my every day life. The history, purpose, and why it remains in culture today resonates in the reason why I choose to wear the snapback. The design process was very fun for me because I got to draw a characiture of myself, research and display my favorite accessory; the snapback.

Image Analysis

For our final in History of Graphic, we were told we can pick a recent medium, poster, ad, movie, etc., within the last year and analyze the medium and pick out traces of previous art moments in time. I chose the Michael Moore movie poster and traced its antecedents to cubism, new school, post modernism, and plakatstil.
Presentation
Presentation
This is my presentation on Corporate Identity, Visual Systems, and Branding. I had a really good time researching how some of todays iconic companies developed their branding. Looking back on logos and how they evolved, grid systems and how they relate to consumers and audiences was very fascinating and useful to note in my repertoire.

Activity Booklet
Activity Book
We were given content to make a children's political activity booklet. The book was to educate children to teens on the injustice brought on cocoa farmers. The child labor, and unfair treatment to the farmers are meant to be learned by 5 minutes a day activities that have been planned out by a weekly course. It was really fun learning how to piece a design with content because it is a great real world practice.

Instruction Project
The Instruction or "How To" project was a very fun experience. I chose How to talk to women, specifically for the socially inept. We were given the freedom to choose our own parameters for the project and I decided to make a flash piece. Starting with the desktop of the person searching for a date, you are directed to click on the safari browser and go to a dating website. Once on the site the "reader" will go through a series of steps to learn how to talk to a woman. This project was really my first try at drawing caricatures, the characters being a imitation of Chris Brown and Rihanna....before the incident of course.

Button Project

In the button project or identity series we were to choose an art movement, in my case was Swiss Style. We were to make buttons for the Blanton Museum of Art. We had to analyze there museum hours, admission prices, and special discounted days and come up with a system that corresponds with the number of buttons.

We had to keep all four of the city's information on the screen at the same time and transition into 3 of the chosen disciplines. After Effects movie, Photoshop, and Illustrator images.

Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger Hunt
The scavenger hunt piece was a very interesting project. We were to make a connection between six images of our choice. Color, line, shape, texture, pattern, positive and negative space were our choices, and we had to make connections of our photos. Digital photos edited in photoshop, and final piece was on an indesign document.

All of these images were created by the addition and subtraction of scanned images much like the critical mass project. This project came first. This project helped hone in on photoshop skills. Final piece was done on an indesign document.

Kitchen of Meaning

This project was my personal favorite. We were given a word, in this case vernacular. We were to study, define, and research the word in its entirety. We were to interpret our word on a poster. Using photoshop and illustrator, I chose to create an 80's inspired movie poster.

Critical Mass

These were done on 4x6 postcards. These pieces were created by adding and subtracting scanned images and edited in photoshop. We had to chose one of the 7 deadly sins and create 4 postcards interpreting that sin. This sin was Lust.
Design Culture Now

This is my Design Culture Now poster. This was my second assignment as a graphic designer. This was a very fun and time consuming project for me. We were given the parameters of information and we were to construct them on a poster based on our creativity.
